Week 7 Assignment 2

Using the Brandman Library Database search I typed in Sexual Assault Victims Cope and search through a lot of articles and books to find my two new sources which are listed at the end of my Annotated Bibliography. I wanted to include these because they discuss the importance of the medical technicians after and attack and how the nurses directly affect how a child will cope after and attack. The second one focused on the offender which I find important to understanding how victims cope because sometimes victims need to understand that nothing they could have done could have prevented from being attack. They need to know that they are not the problem, the offender is. These two sources answer the questions of “Who plays important roles when dealing with victims who are trying to cope?” And, “What are the characteristics of Sexual offenders and why do they do what they do? And, what aspect(s) of your research question do they address? I would like to do a little more research on how victims cope by studying specific victims and the struggles they had to endure. The most interesting portion of my research for a wide audience might be, there is a lot that you can do to help victims cope. A lot of the prevention for before and after an attack has to do with community actions.

This article was produced by the CDC as a proposal for sexual violence prevention. The CDC gives outlines on what sexual violence prevention looks like before and after an attack. This rates as an excellent source based off of the CRAAP test because although it was written in 2004 it is relevant, accurate, and has purpose for this research topic. It also carries a lot of authority because it was written by the CDC. The article is extremely important for this research topic because it draws out plans to educate the community and more specifically victims of sexual assault to avoid further victimization, or revictimization.
Debra Patterson and Brenda Tringali Understanding How Advocates Can Affect Sexual Assault Victim Engagement in the Criminal Justice ProcessJ Interpers Violence July 2015 30: 1987-1997, first published on October 6, 2014 doi:10.1177/0886260514552273
The most relevant information in this article is the relationship between advocates and the victims. It covers the emotional responses of the victims and how it affects the court system. This is a very current article. And is accurate and relevant. I would score it an excellent for the CRAAP test.
Najdowski, C. J., & Ullman, S. E. (2011). The effects of revictimization on coping and depression in female sexual assault victims. Journal Of Traumatic Stress, 24(2), 218-221. doi:10.1002/jts.20610
This article took a mail survey of women who were victims of sexual assaults and asked them about their coping methods. A lot of women experienced depression and developed maladaptive coping methods. This survey is relevant to the designated research topic because it has the statistics on women who are dealing with being a victim and how they are coping, some with depression and some with coping habits that could potentially make them a victim again. The research also rates an excellent in the CRAAP test. Although, further research may find me more current information I still feel as if it’s a good base.
Pritchard, J., Lewis, R., Ryan, B., Hoffman, K., & Nelson, S. (2013). Good Practice in Promoting Recovery and Healing for Abused Adults. London: Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
A sexual assault victim can be very fragile and this book covers recovery and healing for the victim. This is relevant to the research topic because recovery and healing is extremely important for victims who are coping. This book is also an excellent on the CRAAP test because it’s relevant and has a lot of authority behind it. It has a section that explains all the credentials of the contributors.
Finkel, M. A. (2009). Medical Evaluation of Child Sexual Abuse : A Practical Guide. Elk Grove Village: American Academy of Pediatrics.
This book covers the importance of medical personnel, like nurses, during a child’s medical evaluation. This is relevant to my topic because this often plays a role in reestablishing trust for the child during their period of coping. I would rate this a good based off of the CRAAP Criteria because of the currency and relevant portion.
Palermo, G. B., & Farkas, M. A. (2001). The Dilemma of the Sexual Offender. Springfield: Charles C Thomas.
Knowing your offender is a way to help cope and realize that you are not a victim because of something you did. That is what this book covers, understanding the sexual offender. I would rate this a good on the CRAAP test criteria because I don’t believe it’s 100% relevant but I still find it important to my research.

  1. I really enjoyed reading your blogs and seeing your research path. I think your research is not only interesting, but it provides important information that more people should be aware of. I also think you did a great job organizing your bibliography! I was a little unsure about mine, but seeing yours gave me some reassurance.   2. Awesome job Stephanie on your blog and all the information that you put forth on your page! Unfortunately, I have been so behind on my studies after week 3 because I took an emergency impromptu road-trip to Canada to visit my ailing dad and become hugely behind, so here I am cramming. Your blog and the way it's prepared and cited gives me hope. I fumble through my research but I can tighten it up quite a bit just by reassuring myself while reading your page. Excellent topic with a lot of great information and research. I hope you get an A in this class!
